Please let us know how, why, and where you are using Slide.Show. We'd love to collect links and screenshots, as well as your suggestions and feedback.

The very first implementation of Slide.Show (on our own site, of course)!

I used it today to put some pics of my dog and house on my blog for family to look at and ended up writing more about how cool the process was!

I am now using it for my photos gallery on my personal site.

But I am getting an error every now and then:
Silverlight error message

What does that mean?
Dec 14, 2007 at 5:44 PM
The errors were due to comments being listed in the data along with the actual images.

Hi Matt (technovangelist),

Cool implementation! I noticed it's having issues for your visitors, though... Seems the SlideShow.js file is accidentally linked using an absolute path that mentions 'localhost' instead of your domain. Should prove to be a quick fix, and I went ahead and hosted the file locally so I could take a peek at your gallery. Nice photos. : )

It seems Nikhil Kothari has also posted about our project. For those that are interested, take a look:

Hi all,

just blogged and played around with the code - very basic stuff following the tutorial document. I'll mess with it some more tomorrow maybe...

Blog post and link to SlideShow ->

Pretty awesome so far... It'd be good to have a more automated way of creating the Data.xml though - maybe an export plugin for Expression Media/Lightroom/iPhoto/Aperture ;)

Great control. Thanks. It took about 30 minutes to set up and have the images pulled from a database using an ashx page - all the same images, merely resized before the download.

Right now and until I play with it further, it is on my work site at Once I am comfortable with it, I plan on doing an page at my condo site in chicago.

Questions: Are there more properties beyond the few in the example? If yes, where can I find? In particuiular I'm looking is the property to loop the images and the property values used to transition images.

Another nice property would include the ability to display the Title an description above or over the image without having to hover.

Great implementation, petebw. Your photos really show off the control well. And I'll add your suggestion to our issues list. Thanks!

Great control guys!

It was pretty easy to use 'out of the box,' but I decided to customize it a bit for my site. I was able to change how the description of the photo is displayed using just a few options ... no custom code needed! I also changed the background color of the control to match the color of my page and changed the way the albums are shown. Take a look.

Just added a blog post about Slide.Show and included an embedded show:

Three Slide.Shows on one page...

Ok, they're aren't very big slide shows, in fact they are more of a mini-preview slide shows accompanying a link to full slide show.

It's very cool that it only takes a bit of javascript to extend the control to do this. Basically added an extension to SlideShow.XmlDataProvider and SlideShow.Control

Good work on the control!

Very nice, Jeff! One suggestion: I noticed that in your three mini-preview slideshows the SlideDescription module that slides down from the top is usually empty. Did you know that there's an option to hide the module if there's no title or description? Look for the "hideIfEmpty" option.

Thanks for posting! :)

I have written a DotNetNuke module which does all the data file management nicely, resamples and thumbnails images for viewer client size, stores images in filesystem or database, and more:

Thanks for a great project.

Thanks for the kudos and contributing back! Good luck with your DNN module -- looks promising. :)

I created an extension for BlogEngine.Net to take advantage of the control. If there is interest I will share the code. Please leave a comment on my blog if you are interested.

technovangelist could you give me some more details about the error 4001. I'm getting the same error after uploading page to the server (everything works fine on my local file system). What you mean by "comments being listed in the data along with the actual images"? What was your solution? Thank you in advance:)

I created my personal site gallery, the hard part was changing the size of thumbnails and height of nav bar.

I'm impressed. I'm always playing around with something new, but this is a keeper. And using SSGenerator makes life much easier.

After seeing Slide.Show in action feel free to browse around the site to look at the other galleries I'm trying. Admittedly it makes for a discombobulated looking website, but I might get around to cleaning it up someday. Or maybe not...

my Slide.Show enabled foto blog

I use it for my personal photo website: It has 7 different slideshows. To some visitors the control seems to be confusing, because the navigation bar/thumbnail bar disappears when not hoovered over and a lot of those users seem to have problems finding it back :-)

I am using it as part of an application which previews photos of designs. I needed each of the slides to be clickable as well so that a webpage is launched when they are clicked. Wasn't able to find an option and so wrote some code into Slide.Show:

Unfortunately, I can't demo it as it is not a publicly accessible project.

We plan on using it in-house to start and maybe post it externally someday.  We'll use it for our framing company to show a portfolio of our jobs along with summary data.  I can't wait to implement it!

Hey guys,

This is a awesome control.

I new to .NET and I played with the control and got it loading images from my file system, but I needed to load images from my DB. After som epainstaking weeks and research and with some help from the folks on this site I was able to accomplish this. I am now pulling images from my DB through a web handler and it is woking great. I am still busy developing my site and will be for a while but when it is completed I will post it for ou to check out.

The information and posts on this site are very helpful. Also check 2.
